Oyo Govt Postpones BECE Papers Over Buhari’s National Mourning Day

The Oyo State Government has announced the postponement of all Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers earlier scheduled for today, Tuesday, July 15, 2025. According to a statement from the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, the decision was taken in line with the public holiday declared by the Federal Government in honour of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who recently passed away. Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Bamidele Oyinloye , said the affected subjects, Mathematics and Pre-Vocational Studies have been postponed until further notice. Oyo Govt Fines 32 Offenders For Illegal Waste Dumping

The Oyo State Government has prosecuted Thirty-two (32) individuals for indiscriminate waste disposal, including dumping sachet water nylons, refuse, and other waste materials at road medians and unathorised places.  The offenders were fined ₦50,000 each for violating environmental sanitation laws. The Tribunal judge, Barrister Olumide Abifarin, disclosed this during a hearing held at the Ministry of Environment, and Natural Resources, Ibadan. According to him, Environmental officials arrested the offenders in March and they were charged with three offenses: Illegal waste dumping; Failure to register with accredited waste collectors; and Failure to provide a waste bin. The judge said dumping refuse in unauthorized locations is punishable under Section 74(a) and 97 of the Environmental Sanitation and Waste Control Regulations 2013. He said, “it is a legal requirement for all households and commercial establishments to own a waste bin and patronize an accredited wate collector.” The ...
